Cozy up to the fireplace with one of these delicious treats. No matter what the weather outside, it will be toasty warm inside.
Organic Apple Cider
16-18 whole cloves
8 small organic apples, such as gala
2 oranges, thinly sliced
2 quarts organic apple juice (fresh organic apple juice, if you can find it, is the best)
1/4 cup raw sugar
1 teaspoon allspice
cinnamon sticks, for garnish
Stud apples with cloves. In a large pot, combine remaining ingredients except for the cinnamon sticks. Bring to a simmer over low heat. Simmer for about 10-12 minutes. Remove from heat.
Ladle cider into mugs and garnish with a cinnamon stick and serve.
Spiced Organic Hot Cocoa
In a 2-quart saucepan or large crock pot, combine milk, half and half, vanilla, cinnamon and agave. Place Mulling Spice in muslin bag or banded coffee filter, and add to liquid mixture.
If using crock pot, heat on high for 30 minutes then turn down to low. If using stovetop, heat over medium heat, stirring often.
Remove Mulling spice and serve when desired temperature is reached.
Spiced Hot Cocoa
6 cups skim milk
3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
3 tablespoons sugar, or sweetener of your choice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon (or to your taste) chili powder
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- Heat the milk in a saucepan over medium-low heat until lukewarm; stir the cocoa powder and sugar into the warmed milk until dissolved. Add the vanilla, cinnamon, chili powder, nutmeg, and cloves. Heat another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add a little water if necessary to adjust flavor to your liking.
